mural-plans-panoramic-cr-art2.jpgCarla looks forward to participating in two exciting public art mural projects in the coming months!

Carla created the winning design for Kew Gardens Cinemas Park mural (preliminary visual photo layout above). Kew Gardens Cinemas Park is a privately owned rest area in the heart of Kew Gardens, Queens, for locals to relax between shopping in town or waiting for a matinee to start at the cherished indie film theater. Carla’s design incorporates a film strip with a variety of scenes painted by a number of local artists (including herself!) that can be changed seasonally. These painted scenes will be from the artists favorite films, from life, or their imaginations. The project is currently in development, fund raising, and securing donations. Anyone interested in participating, and/or donating supplies or funds should contact Carol Lacks, the project’s organizer, at carollacks@aol.com.

Carla is also thrilled to be a participating artist in the Stencil Artisans League members first charity mural project at their annual convention- this year taking place in San Francisco from July 16-21,2007. SALI is a non profit organization that brings together artisans at every skill level to learn from each other, to recreate and rekindle the old world techniques while embracing and refining “new world” artistic expressions.

The mural will be donated to Compass Community Services at the end of the week. Compass Community Services provides housing, education, and employment services to San Francisco’s homeless and at-risk families. The agency’s four programs support more than 3,000 parents and children each year in their efforts to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. The mural will be placed in the Connecting Point building. This is a drop-in service area where families come to receive food, use computers and phones, chat with other families, play with their children, and access job and help referrals.

The mural design competition winner is Elizabeth Medina with her mural entitled “Hope to a New Life.” Photos of the completed mural to come!…
